Ballyland is unique software, specifically designed to enable young children with a disability to independently explore and play on a computer keyboard, developing foundation keyboarding skills and keyboard 'mapping' skills in the process. These skills will greatly benefit all children's future use of computer technology.
All children love and share this fun play-and-learn experience, regardless of a disability. Special design features support learning by children who are blind or have low vision, and the five most important keys for future navigation with screen reader software are individually taught via so-called Key Games.
Because of its clever and user friendly design, Ballyland Keyboarding software benefits and engages children with a wide range of disabilities and learning difficulties.

In Ballyland keyboarding each key produces a particular sound. The design of the sound landscape is based on the way keys are grouped on the keyboard by way of their function. A detailed list of all the sounds that are used in the Any Key Goes level, and the way these are grouped in categories, can be used by parents or educators to assist a child in learning particular keys or sounds, identifying important keys for future formal keyboarding, and in developing a better understanding of the structure of the keyboard ('mental mapping').

For children with low or normal vision, we recommend using the Chester Creek Colour Coded keyboard with Ballyland Keyboarding, as the colors support the sound categories used in the game.

'My student who is now in grade 1 this year loves this program and has been developing some great keyboard skills. She is also teaching some of her sighted peers how to use the program and to learn the keyboard.'

Keyboard
'Tough hard to break. BIG BUTTONS and BIG LETTERS. great for children and Special Education use. non typical layout, force child to learn 2 layouts. Very pricey but will last a long time. I work for a School board and we use around 30 of these in the special ed dept. works great for the visually impaired. '
The Kinderboard Keyboard is very nice addition to our library technology geared specifically for young customers.

Chester Creek Keyboard Instructions

'Works great for young children. My 3 year old loves it. The best part about the keyboard, which may not be obvious, is the keys are in a grid pattern versus staggered like a standard keyboard. Makes it a lot more kid friendly. Also feels durable. I would recommend the keyboard to others.'

Chester Creek Keyboard User Manual

'We have two young kids, 3 and 5, and this is a good first keyboard for them. They are just starting to play games where they need the arrow keys and our 5 year old is learning to read and write letters so the color coding should be good as well as time goes on. I read other adults review this that they could not type with this keyboard. That is because it is not meant for adults to type on. The keyboard has big keys intended to help kids learn the keyboard. Do not plan on using it yourself for email, typing, etc. The kids are too big for adults. They are just right for young kids trying to learn hand and finger coordination. My wife and I have our own separate keyboard for us.'
